Transition Houston and the Houston Peace and Justice Center have launched an initiative to establish a Buy Local First Business Alliance for the Houston area. This Alliance will provide a solid support foundation for local independent businesses and non-profits through collaborative sharing of capabilities and resources.

Local businesses link communities together and everyone in Houston benefits when the money we spend circulates through the hands of Houstonians.


The Business Alliance for Local Living Systems (BALLE) provides a framework which can be adapted to Houston’s local circumstances to promote


• New sales connections between local businesses

• An increase in local purchasing by member businesses

• An increase in customers patronizing local businesses

• An increase in contacts with other like-minded businesses


You and your business will want to be there to get in on the ground floor. You’ll have the opportunity to provide input and lend your expertise to create something that promotes and celebrates the uniqueness of Houston.
