Houston BBQ Festival long overdue for Houston joints

If there was ever a reason to mosey down to Houston for a weekend, this is the time. On Sunday March 24 from 1pm to 5pm, the inaugural Houston Barbecue Festival will take place at the Bayou City Event Center. This event promises to showcase the best of the best in Houston barbecue.

Often overlooked due to the popularity of Central Texas barbecue, Houston barbecue deserves its moment in the spotlight as well. The Festival was created to do just that - to highlight the great tastes of Houston metroplex BBQ all under one roof. It’s a wonder this is the first year for this event given the wide array of options in the city.

While further-out restaurants such as Hinze’s in Sealy, Texas and City Market in Luling, Texas have received national attention in recent years, many Texans have stories and memories for days about the local joints, some of which will participate in this weekend’s festival. This year’s participant restaurants include Gatlin’s BBQ, Pizzitola’s Bar-B-Que, and Lenox Bar-B-Que.
