Houston bar profile: The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium

The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium on Main and Capitol/M. Morton

Located conveniently on the corner of Main and Capitol in downtown Houston is The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium. Affectionately called the Saucer by its regulars, The Flying Saucer is a Beerknurd’s (pronounced beer-nerd) heaven. With over 200+ beers available for ordering, who can resist trying only one? That’s why when a customer signs up for the U.F.O. Club they are eligible to receive a Golden Saucer, which is placed on display on the ceiling and walls of the Saucer. How does one get such an honor? Drink 200 beers. But there’s a catch: only 3 beers are counted per day toward this goal. Many have achieved it, and many have achieved it more than once.

The Saucer makes home for many business folk taking a break from the office; co-eds visiting the city and are in need of a beer break; and locals who enjoy the authenticity of a true beer bar. Because of it’s popularity and high traffic location, the Saucer is often crowded with tables, booths, and sofas taken leaving customers with standing room only. There are two levels, with the top level used for private parties. The bar is also smoker friendly with an outdoor seating area.

There is always something going on everyday of the week at the Saucer:
Sunday all Texas beers are on sale for $2.75

Monday is Pint Night, with over 70 drafts available for $2.75

Tuesday is Trivia Night from 7:30pm-9:30pm with prizes for the winners (1st- $50 gift card; 2nd- $25 gift card; 3rd- $15 gift card)

Wednesday is Brewery Night where customers can buy the beer of the night and keep the glass

Thursday is Tap Night where the bar puts a rare beer on tap

Friday brings an extra hour of happy hour ending at 8pm

Saturday there’s nothing special but because it’s the weekend customers can always find the social interactions here a treat.

Everyday (except Friday) Happy Hour ends at 7pm. Customers should take advantage of the Biggie Beers (only on draft) during Happy Hour.

I live downtown & frequently pass by this place. I've often wondered about it. Thanks for satisfying my curiousity; I'll have to check it out now.
