The state swimming championships for TAPPS private schools were held this past weekend, and many of the Houston-area schools had a fantastic showing. In Division I, St. Agnes Academy won first place and Duchesne Academy took third for the girls teams, while St. Thomas took second and Concordia Lutheran of Tomball took third for the boys teams. Ben Walker of Concordia Lutheran took first place in the state for two events: 200 yard individual medley and 500 yard freestyle. For the girls, St. Agnes's relay team won first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay, and Annie Miller of Duchesne took home the gold in the 50 yard freestyle.
In Division II, Awty International took home first place in state for both their girls and boys teams. The Pope John XXIII High School girls took home third place, only one point behind second place Parish Episcopal from Dallas. The boys from Second Baptist won third place and the Pope John XXIII boys took home fifth. Individually, Cameron McHugh of Pope John XXIII took home two first place medals for 200 yard individual medley and 500 yard freestyle; Liz Hirs of Awty International took home the gold for 100 yard freestyle; and Awty International's relay teams won first in both the 200 yard and 400 yard relays for the girls. Awty's boys relays did well too - taking home the first place medals in the 200 yard medley relay and 400 yard freestyle relays. Justin Roy of Lutheran South won first in the 100 yard butterfly, and Clay Cooke of Westbury Christian won gold in 100 yard freestyle.
The girls of Division III in Houston took many of the top team spots: Logos Prep of Sugar Land took second, St. Thomas Episcopal third, The Woodlands Christian Academy fourth, and Faith West of Katy fifth. St. Thomas Episcopal's boys took second in their division. Alicia Finnigan of Logos Prep won first in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard butterfly; Brittany Murphy of The Woodlands Prep won the 50 yard freestyle; and Logos Prep won the 400 yard freestyle relay. For the boys, Josh Chavez of Logos Prep won the 200 yard individual medley and Colin Murphy of The Woodlands Prep won the 500 yard freestyle.
