Houston 7-year-old injured when bicycle struck by car

A seven-year-old Houston boy was hospitalized Thursday night, January 26, after being struck by a car as he rode his bicycle near his home. The boy, who lives in the 5500 block of Tiger Lilly Way, received leg injuries but is expected to recover. The unidentified driver remained at the scene,  was interviewed by police and released without charge. The accident took place at approximately 8:00 PM.

According to an interview with KHOU-11 news, the child's father, Ivan Carranza, heard the impact and rushed to the scene from his home. Carranza complained that multiple accidents have resulted from excessive speed on the street, which is the neighborhood's only access road. Tiger Lilly Way intersects South Post Oak Road two blocks east of the Carranza residence, just south of Main Street.

The accident is one of several  involving Houston cyclists in recent days. A 53-year-old man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in northwest Houston on Monday, January 23. In far north Houston, an eight-year-old girl was lightly injured on January 18th. She was riding her bike from her home to Roth Elementary School when she was knocked to the ground in an intersection. In that incident, the driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
