All proceeds from the Jazz festival will go toward funding Jazz Education Inc.'s educational programs. Jazz & Poetry Series and Summer Jazz Workshop. The Jazz and Poetry Series serves more than 20,000 elementary school children, and through two locations, the Summer Jazz Workshop trains over 100 teenage musicians yearly. This three day festival consists of a Kick Off Party (08/02/2013), the Jazz Festival (08/03/2013), and The Mayors Scholarship Jazz Brunch (08/04/2013) held at the prestigious Wortham Center where scholarships to student musicians will be awarded by Houston's Mayor Annise Parker. Jazz Education Inc. (JEI) was founded by Jazz artist Bubbha Thomas, who saw a need to fill a void where music education and youth were concerned.
