Household Chemical Roundup Aug. 10

Conveniently dispose of the household chemicals taking up space in your garage at the annual Household Chemical Roundup, Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch. Douglas County residents are invited to drive through and drop off the hazardous chemicals they wish to properly throw away.

Acceptable items include:

  • House, garden, and pool chemicals
  • Items containing mercury
  • Paint and paint products
  • Ammunition
  • Automotive fluids
  • Aerosols
  • Fuels
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Propane tanks (1-20 lbs.)
  • CFLs
  • Vehicle and household batteries
  • Passenger vehicle and pickup truck tires (removed from rim)

Items that will not be accepted:

  • Business and commercial waste
  • Smoke detectors
  • Radioactive waste
  • Waste containing asbestos
  • Electronic waste
  • Tractor tires
  • Explosive waste
  • Scrap metal

Participants will be asked for a $25 contribution to help with the high cost of hazardous waste disposal.

More than 140 tons of hazardous materials were collected at last year’s roundup. Hosted by the Tri-County Health Department in partnership with the Highlands Ranch Metro District and Centennial Water and Sanitation District, this event is key in helping prevent pollution by disposing of hazardous chemicals the right way.
