NBC News reports that the House of Representatives voted 425 to 0 to pass a legislation to restore death benefits owed to the families of fallen service members.
Reports indicate that President Barack Obama was “disturbed” when he heard the benefits had stopped. Jay Carney, who is a spokesman for the President, told reporters that President Obama “directed that a solution be found, and we expect one today.”
Carney said that lawmakers were reportedly informed before the shutdown that death benefits weren't covered in a bill that was signed to protect the pay for service members, but did not act to prevent the benefits from being cut off.
