"House Of Versace" is a 2013 true-story Lifetime movie based on the life of Donatella Versace and the Versace empire as told in the book "House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival," by Deborah Ball. Most of the real names are used in the film. It stars Gina Gershon as Donatella and Enrico Colantoni as Gianni.
The riveting Lifetime movie chronicles an Italian family's rise to fame in the fashion world until the untimely death of fashion legend Gianni Versace in 1997.
After her brother's death, Donatella dives to a depth of new lows. She struggles with a troubled family business and a bout with drugs and alcohol.
But, Donatella makes a comeback by turning the once respected but declining company into one of the most legendary fashion houses in the world.
“Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace," according to a statement released by the company.
The Fashion House continued:
"Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is based, the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction."
So there you have it. However, it still won't stop viewers from tuning in to Gina Gershon's spectacular and believable performance as the feisty Donatella. Not to mention, the movie has everything the viewers will love: fame, fortune, sex and murder.
For more on the true story, Lifetime will air the documentary "Beyond The Headlines," according to Variety.
"House Of Versace" will air on Lifetime Saturday, October 5 at 8/7 p.m. central.
