House of Blues Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino unveiled a 13-foot guitar sculpture by sculptor Dale Evers called “Wings of Legend” on Jan. 16, 2013, to commemorate the return of Carlos Santana’s residency “An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live – Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.” The unveiling also honored the 20th anniversary celebration of the House of Blues brand, which has the largest public collection of folk art in North America.
Cutting-edge American artist Evers, who mixes mediums at a sophisticated level, created this special custom piece replicating a PRS Santana signature guitar made of steel, glass and bronze. It’s located at outside an entrance to the House of Blues for all to enjoy.
“I understood the gravitas of the mission,” said Evers. “This is when the visual arts crash into the performing arts.” “Wings of Legend” represents the tens of millions of guitars that have become an intrinsic part of American pop-culture and pays homage to the artistry of Santana and his relationship with PRS guitars.
The sculpture unveiling evoked the needs in local Las Vegas schools and prompted Hermes Music Foundation, along with the International House of Blues Foundation’s Action for the Arts program (IHOBF), to donate 200 guitars to local schools and programs. At the unveiling, donation recipients, the student Mariachi band from Fremont Middle School, were on hand to perform live.
Also in attendance were superstar Carlos Santana, whose speech promoted universal love; guitarist and luthier Paul Reed Smith, founder of PRS Guitars; Gregory Morrison, director of Hermes Music U.S.; and Andrew Economon, general manager of House of Blues Las Vegas.
