A new exhibit of paintings at Visual Art Studio highlight the United States’ current economic situation.
Keith Ramsey, who received his bachelor’s of fine arts in Painting & Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University, grew up in Williamsburg.
His mixed media paintings can be seen in “Hour Time” at Visual Art Studio through Saturday, December 17.
The exhibit’s title, according to a press release from the gallery, “is a way of recognizing how fast detrimental changes to our environment, our world and our lives are taking place and what the effects could be.”
Traditional paintings, some with words scratched into them and others with paper or organic materials attached, seek to depict the ephemeral nature of American patriotism and the American environment. The American spirit has weakened as Americans experienced unemployment.
A Saturday Artist Talk and Conversation with Ramsey will be held at Visual Art Studio on November 19 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Visual Art Studio is located at 208 West Broad Street and can be reached at 804/644-1368. Gallery hours are Thursday-Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m.
