Anyone who has ever experienced the love of a dog will attest to the healing nature of that bond.
Shelly Cote and Tammy Anderson, founders of Hounds Healing Heroes, take that loving relationship to another level by pairing less adoptable shelter dogs with Veterans (as well as civilians) who are struggling with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),
For the person living with PTSD as well as the rescued dog, it is a new beginning and the first step to a better life.
Shelly and Tammy utilize an intensive screening process in order to create the most perfect match possible between Hound and Hero. Subsequent to the adoption, Hounds Healing Heroes offers a solid support system, requiring obedience training classes and regular follow up. For any medical situations that require human hospitalization, there is always a foster home open for the animal and in the event of hard times, a food pantry has been set up to provide for the dog.
During an appearance on the TV show Pound Posse Presents by Shelly and Tammy, along with Veterans Tara Lindberg and Rob Neubauer (with his dog, Jake), Tara and Rob spoke about their lives and explained the difference having a dog has made to them. It was clear that Rob and Jake, although more recently introduced, were meant for each other.
