Will Post says he is, “just an average guy from Georgia who got FED UP with my dogs dying early and living a life on drugs. For 100 years we have known our pets are sick. They are living on drugs in pet foods and they die from poor nutrition.” He recalls taking his dying dogs to the vet to be told they are dying from malnutrition, despite feeding them what he believed was quality pet food.
Three years ago, after retiring from a 30 year Marine Corp career performing legal services, Post founded Hound and Gatos with the goal of creating a high quality, all natural dog and cat food brand that provides pets with the nutrition they needed to live long, healthy lives as human companions.
Post says pet owners are unaware of the unhealthy additives and products in many commercial pet foods. These substances include:
Generic liver. Many pet food labels that state the food contains liver fool buyers who believe it is lamb liver. In reality, it is frequently beef or chicken liver. Chicken and beef allergies are fairly common in pets and, in many cases, generic liver contains one and/or both. Should your pets consume mystery meat?
Carrageenan. This additive is derived from red algae seaweed and acts as a binder and thickening agent. It has been found to lead to gastrointestinal problems and linked to colon cancer.
Fluoride. Most veterinarians discourage the use of toothpaste (for pets) containing fluoride or water with high fluoride content because excess amounts can lead to vomiting and kidney damage.
Coloring Agents. Any ingredient listed as Yellow 5, Red 40 or Blue 2 is an unnecessary, damaging ingredient. Coloring agents are added to make pet food appealing to human eyes and make no impression on pets.
Corn Bran or Corn Cellulose. An inexpensive ingredient, it is used as a filler to add bulk to your pet food.
It has no nutritional value.
Hound and Gatos produces a full line of high quality pet foods for both dogs and cats.Their mission is to help these pets eat foods closer to what would be their natural diet, which will help keep them healthy and happy. Hound and Gatos high quality pet food is made from animals raised in the USA in Indiana and Wisconsin, with the exception of lamb. “Our lamb is from New Zealand,” Post said. “The best lamb in the world is from there, and it is right for our pet
foods.” The pet food is manufactured in South Dakota.
“Our rabbit is also from the USA, not China, like many pet foods,” Post added. “We even debone it, which is especially critical for cat food.”
Hound and Gatos pet foods are currently available at over 1600 hundred stores nationwide, 600 stores in Canada, and online. The website also has a store locator link to find an outlet near you. Post said that he is determined to prove that a small company producing a high quality product can successfully compete with huge retailers producing inferior pet foods.
Hound and Gatos is headquartered in Atlanta Georgia, where Post lives with his two cats and two dogs. "It's critical to add real meat to dry kibble too," Post concluded, even if an all meat diet is not fed to one’s pets.
