Houlton holds off Dexter for 38-36 quarterfinal victory

BANGOR--- Natalie Hill scored 10 third quarter points, as the fifth seeded Houlton Shiretowners girls basketball team held off a late Dexter rally to earn a 38-36 victory in a class C quarterfinal game on Tuesday afternoon at Cross Insurance Center.

Houlton jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never trailed.

The Shiretowners built the lead up to 21-9 in the second quarter.

Houlton held a 23-15 halftime lead.

Tasha Pratt made 3 three pointers in the second half, including two in the fourth quarter to help Dexter cut the lead down to two with 10 seconds remaining.

Dexter had a shot at the buzzer, but the Michaela White three pointer just missed.

Hill finished with 15 points to lead the Shiretowners.

Katie Condon added 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Houlton (13-6) will take on Calais in a semifinal game on Friday at 7 p.m.

Abbie Melvin led the Tigers with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Pratt added nine points and three assists. Megan Peach chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

Dexter finishes the season with a 13-6 record.
