Established in 1928 and recognized as a State historic landmark in 1974, the Hotel San Carlos underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2003. Although much of the building was remodeled at that time, the architecture and glamorous details of Hollywood’s ‘Golden Era’ are intact today. The lobby contains the original crown molding, Austrian crystal chandeliers, travertine tile, and copper elevator doors. Each of the two-room suites is uniquely decorated and individually styled. Outside, the sidewalk gleams with bronze stars engraved with names of former celebrities, politicians, and movie stars who have previously stayed at the hotel.
As for former guests, ghost tours of the premises will be starting up again during the month of October. According to Ash, a desk clerk at the San Carlos, the tours will be available on week-ends only and are a favorite attraction for locals and visitors to the valley. More information will be forthcoming.
