Hotel Does Not Spell Home

In today's article, Dr. De'Andrea Wiggins compares a visit to a hotel to our temporary dwelling here on Earth. Just as a hotel is not home, this is not our eternal resting place.

As I sat in my hotel room during my most recent conference, I began to think on the luxurious amenities that the hotel offers that my home does not. Even with the great views, convenient shopping and dining locations, a hotel is still a temporary location. Although I enjoyed my stay immensely, I longed to be at home in the comfort of my own bed.

Likewise, the Bible tells us that "our bodies are like tents that we live in here on earth. But when these tents are destroyed, we know that God will give each of us a place to live. These homes will not be buildings that someone has made, but they are in heaven and will last forever. While we are here on earth, we sigh because we want to live in that heavenly home" (2 Corinthians 5:1-2 Contemporary English Version).

It is good and pleasant to enjoy our time here on Earth; however, many of us long for that eternal dwelling place that Jesus went to prepare for us (John 14:2) in the Heavens. Similarly, it's nice to get away at a hotel or resort, but there is no place like home.
