With 125 years behind its gilded belt, San Diego’s golden gem, the Hotel Del Coronado, continues to move upward with innovations and celebrity and animal friendly amenities. It recently announced a new program for furry friends who accompany adults to the property and last night, the new outgoing and well-humored GM Andre Zotoff told members of the press how the iconic resort continues to advance and enchant.
“We are always improving,” Zotoff exclaimed at the reception held at Republique, one of LA’s hottest and trendiest new dining venues. “The hotel has always been popular with celebrities but now that we have the new Beach Village at the Del, it is even more in favor with superstars such as Sandra Bullock who appreciate the privacy afforded them,” he continued. The waterfront set-up is also open to all guests and stocked with stand-up paddle boards, boogie boards, surfboards, kayak rentals, food and beverages for sale and all beachy creature comforts.
The 368-room Victorian hotel is undergoing an $18 million upgrade that includes new Blue Octopus suites for families with king bedroom, ocean-inspired kids’ bedroom equipped with bunk beds, bean bag chairs and a filled toy chest. Also on the horizon is a pizza oven, more fire pits and much more designed for discerning guests and celebrities seeking luxurious and quick getaways.
Zotoff’s been behind the team since August and all indications point to an upward direction with him behind the helm. The Munich-born dual passport-holder (Germany and US) comes with an impressive hotel background and know-how that includes more than 35 years of experience, the latest being a dozen years at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.
For pet-lovers there’s hotel’s new Del Dogs&Cats perks that includes a Yappy Hour, Evain and kibble, bedding crates, collars and leashes and much more and special amenities for felines, too. For younger, two-legged guest the DelVenture keeps kids four to 12 diverted with stuff such as a treasure hunt. In addition to all that there’s lots of new food options such as the SEA+Food one day festival on June 7, new outdoor beachfront eatery and sun deck bar and grill service and a restyled menu at 5300 OCEAN’s Sunset Bar.
Summer is the best time to visit the Del when the beach is up and running with services, the pool’s welcoming and life is a bowl of cherries or schnapps in the case of Herr Zotoff.
