A mother is in jail today after allegedly duct-taping a 14-year-old boy and forcing him to inhale marijuana and pouring hot sauce in his eyes, Fox News reported Friday in a story that is buzzing on the Internet.
It was apparently done as a method of punishment, police said. It happened in West Valley City, near Salt Lake City, Utah.
"This is not discipline that any child should have to go through," West Valley Police Sgt. Jason Hauer told reporters. "It's definitely abuse."
The teenager was put in the custody of the boy’s father, police said.
The mother, Robin Willette Rumsey, allegedly committed the hot sauce attack with the help of her friend, Krista Jean Miller. Both were jailed on child endangerment charges.
Police said the women began a pattern of abuse with the boy two years ago, subjecting him cruel and painful punishments. The women were living together with the boy in a home that belonged to Miller’s mother.
CBS News reports that one occasion in 2011, the boy was abusively punished by the women because he broke a glass dish. Police said one of women pushed the boy onto the glass and poured Tabasco sauce in his eyes and face to punish him.
