Hot sauce poured in eyes of 14-year-old as part of severe punishment

Hot sauce poured in the eyes of a 14-year-old was used as a form of punishment. The hot sauce was reportedly poured into his eyes in conjunction with duct-taping him and forcing him to inhale marijuana. That is what a report from Thursday (Feb. 21) claims to have happened in a Salt Lake City Suburb.

The mother and her friend have been jailed on suspicion of carrying out this harsh punishment, leading to some very succinct comments from West Valley Police Sgt. Jason Hauer. He stated that, “This is not discipline that any child should have to go through. It’s definitely abuse.”

The child has now been placed in the custody of his father as his mother, Robin Willette Rumsey, and her friend, Krista Jean Miller, face charges of felony child abuse and endangerment. The reason that they claimed the punishment was taking place was that he had broken a glass dish, so they allegedly felt it was appropriate to pour Tabasco sauce in his eyes.

While hot sauce getting poured in the eyes of a 14-year-old for any reason sounds like a clear-cut case of abuse, the grandmother still believes that her daughter is not capable of this kind of abuse. According to the report, she stated that she was not raised that way and that the allegations couldn’t possibly be true.

The ongoing investigation certainly hasn’t shown Rumsey or Miller in a good light, especially with the additional allegations that the women tried to force the boy to smoke marijuana, poured alcohol over his face, and held him in a basement.
