Beautiful Elena Delle Donne was born on September 5, 1989, in Wilmington, Delaware. Elena comes from a very athletic family, as her father played college basketball at Columbia, and her brother played college football for both Duke and Middle Tennessee State.
Elena Delle Donne is 6' 5" tall, and she is a great athlete so it was only natural for her to play and excel at basketball. By the time she played basketball in high school for Ursuline Academy, Elena Delle Donne was a star, and she led her team to three state titles and was named National High School Player of the Year in 2008 by McDonald's, USA Today, and Gatorade.
Coming out of high school in 2008, Elena Delle Donne was the most highly sought after recruit in women's basketball. Elena accepted a full scholarship offer from the University of Connecticut, the most successful program in women's college basketball.
Elena's older sister, Lizzie Delle Donne, was born both blind and deaf, and she has cerebral palsy and autism. Elena is extremely close to Lizzie, and after a few days at UConn, Elena Delle Donne made the decision to return home to Delaware and be near her sister.
Elena enrolled at the University of Delaware, and she led the Blue Hens to national prominence in her college career. Elena Delle Donne scored over 3,000 points in college, and averaged 26.5 points per game, while making 41.5% of her three-points shots.
After college, Elena Delle Donne was taken by the Chicago Sky with the second overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft. After averaging 18.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and leading the Chicago Sky into the WNBA Playoffs, Elena Delle Donne was named WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2013.
