On June 8, 2014, Andy Murray announced he had hired Amelie Mauresmo as his new coach, after he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the 2014 French Open semis. While the hire might sound strange to some, Amelie Mauresmo did help coach Marion Bartoli to a Wimbledon singles title in 2012.

Amelie Mauresmo was born on July 5, 1979, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. Amelie says she became interested in tennis when she was just four years old and watched French tennis star Yannick Noah win the 1983 French Open (Yannick Noah is the father of NBA star Joakim Noah).

After a distinguished career in juniors, Amelie won junior titles at the French Open and Wimbledon in 1996, Amelie Mauresmo became one the top female singles players in tennis. As an unseeded player, Amelie Mauresmo reached the finals of the 1999 Australian Open, where she lost to Martina Hingis.

During her run to the Australian Open finals in 1999, Amelie Mauresmo defeated the then #1 singles player in the world, Lindsay Davenport. After the huge upset win over Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo came out as a lesbian by jumping into the arms of her girlfriend at the time after the match.

In 2004, Amelie Mauresmo became the #1 women's singles tennis player in the world, even though she had yet to win a Grand Slam singles title. In 2006, Amelie Mauresmo won her first Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open.

Amelie followed that win up with her second Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon in the same year. Those are the only two Grand Slam singles titles of Amelie Mauresmo's career.

Amelie also won a Silver Medal at the 2004 Olympics. At the end of 2009, Amelie Mauresmo retired from tennis as a player.

Since retiring as a player, Amelie Mauresmo ran the New York City Marathon in 2010, and has coached players like Michael Llodra, Victoria Azarenka, and Marion Bartoli. On June 8, 2014, Andy Murray announced he was hiring Amelie Mauresmo as a coach for the 2014 grass season.
