We are still 6 weeks away from Halloween but vampire items are hot right now. In fact, over the past 2 years, this niche has nothing to do with Halloween. With the release of the Twilight books and movies, vampire themed items have increased in popularity. Here are a few categories to pay attention to:
Books. I’ve been involved in selling 12,000 books for a consignment client since April of this year. (These books were donated by Borders Book Stores to a charity.) I’ve noticed that vampire fiction is a consistent seller. Some titles I’ve sold recently include:
Eclipse
The Thirst Series
Southern Vampire Mysteries
Spirit Bound
Vampire Academy books
Dead Until Dark (any books by Charlene Harris)
Board games including Twilight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Vampire Diaries. Look for these on sale at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Kohl’s, and Walgreens.
DVDs, especially boxed sets. These do not have to be in new condition to sell well. Again, look for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, and any of the Twilight series.
Action figures and Barbie (type) dolls. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is popular here, too. Also look for Living Dead dolls, Twilight Bella dolls, Vampire Goddess statues, and Marvel Vampire Hunter dolls.
My guess is that vampire themed costumes and decorations are going to be very popular this year. Watch for sales at Party City and other retailers who sell Halloween items.
