As Halloween draws ever near and Fall fast fades to Winter, the KC Independent Film Community is bustling with activities.

The Independent Filmmakers Coalition of Kansas City (IFCKC), which normally meets every Wednesday at the Westport Coffee House, hosts its Halloween Bash this evening. The festivities take place at MOD Gallery, 1809 McGee, Kansas City, MO beginning at 7 PM and ending at midnight. An inexpensive $5 admission nets attendees free barley and hops beverages and unlimited munchies. There will be film screenings, music, art and a costume contest, the winner of which will received two VIP passes to KC CreepFest.
KC’s cinematographers can view the latest in high-end digital cinema capabilities by visiting Stageport, KC’s studio complex located at 208 West 19th, Kansas City, MO. Arranged by local cinematographers, David Gilmore, Mark Stock and Andy Romero will showcase the RED EPIC-X, the ARRI Alexa and Sony F3 cameras. The demonstration begins at 6 PM and runs to 9 PM.

KC CreepFest is this Friday and Saturday. As the horror festival’s website details:
KC CreepFest celebrates the creativity and innovative spirit of the "Best of the Midwest" independent horror filmmakers. The event includes locally produced feature-length and short horror films, classic B-movies, a seminar on micro-budget filmmaking, and a blood drive for the Community Blood Center of Grater Kansas City.
Fans will be please to learn that Tiffany Shepis, Scream Queen, will be in attendance on Saturday and host a Saturday movie night along and will emcee the annual Westport Costume Contest that is happening at Firefly.
Film screenings are happening at the Tivoli Cinema and Westport Coffee House. A calendar with times of the events for both Saturday and Sunday, along with pricing info for tickets is available at the KC CreepFest website. Also, Patrick Rea’s Nailbiter will screen Saturday night. Note that a donation during the blood drive provides a discount on the ticket price for films screening at the Westport Coffee House.

The Kansas City Women in Film & TV will have its November meeting with the KCIFC Wednesday, Nov 9th, downstairs at the Westport Coffee House. The IFC and KCWIFT will be co-sponsoring a FANTASTIC speaker, Hammad Zaidi. Zaidi is the CEO of Lonely Seal Releasing, an international film and television company. Zaidi is currently developing and producing several film and television projects.

On 11-11-11 – that once in a millennium phenomenon – CinemaKC is showing the cult-classic and all around hilarious This is Spinal Tap mockumentary. The film will show twice that evening, once a 8:11 PM and once at 11:11 PM. Tickets, of course, are $11, with those being born on 11-11 receiving free admission. The celebration begins at 7:11 PM and the evening will feature:
- Hear local Spinal Tap tribute band Smell the Glove expertly tackle 11 stubbornly timeless Tap tunes, including “Hell Hole,” “Big Bottom,” “Sex Farm,” “Heavy Duty,” “Stonehenge” and “Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight."
- Meet legendary Kansas City rock radio personality Skid Roadie from 101 the Fox
- Play the “Go to 11” Swag Raffle ($5 a ticket), including movie memorabilia, CD/DVD packages and a Screenland Theatres Annual VIP Pass for Two.
- Come as your favorite Spinal Tap character and receive a free raffle ticket and a free Screenland ticket to a future event
- Visit dealer tables with t-shirts, comics and other cool collectibles.

While the title 3/5/7 Tight Shorts might sound like a 70’s grind house exploitation flick, it is actually IFCKC’s short film program, where filmmakers can enter short films from any genre into the program for screening and competition. The films must be at or under three minutes, five minutes or seven minutes in running times. Awards for the best film in each category will be given to filmmakers, along with an audience choice award. Not just for IFCKC members, the competition is open to all. A $30 entry fee includes a membership to the IFCKC. Those who are already members of the organization pay a $25 entry fee. To download an entry form, visit the IFCKC’s website.
