The start of Hot August Nights 2013 was evident in Reno on Aug. 6 as all kinds of classic cars cruised "The Biggest Little City in the World." Two-toned turquoise Buicks from the 1960s rolled alongside cherried out E Type Porsches and mint Ford Model As on S. Virginia St., now a showcase for a myriad rides at their very best as the first day of the storied event debuted.
According to the official site for the annual event, vintage vehicles have been showing up in Reno from elsewhere in the nation since Monday, and will continue to take over the entire area, including South Lake Tahoe and Sparks, through Sunday.
This gathering of old school vehicles is said to be the biggest in the country with that fact evident in the hundreds of restored cars from all eras taking over this Nevada city.
In fact, KOLO TV describes the scene as "acres of cars of all description." This local ABC source says that auctioneer Barrett-Jackson will be banging the gavel on sales out of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on a total of 400 different vehicles, from hot rods to muscle cars to all sorts of popular models. All these cars will be on the block and will likely create a bidding frenzy.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in town, all manner of activities revolving around the bevy of beautiful cars that are taking part in Hot August Nights 2013 will have visitors and locals alike revved up through the coming weekend. So, drivers, start your engines while everyone in the vicinity trips down memory lane in Reno thanks to the onslaught of minty vintage vehicles proudly on parade this summer in the Silver State.
