Host an Oscars Party: Craft the Perfect Buffet Table

It’s just not a party unless the guests have a little something to nibble on. The buffet table can make or break your Oscars-themed party. Use your crafting skills to craft just the right look, and turn the eating area into a central piece of the party’s theme.

Hooray for Hollywood

The Oscars is a night that’s all about the movies. Bring the theme to life by writing it in big, plain letters. It’s really easy to craft a marquee for the buffet tale, and create your own Hollywood-style sign that actually lights up.

Use a utility knife to cut letters out of foam core. “OSCARS” makes a nice marquee for a party on Academy Awards night. Make an X down the center of each letter, about 1 inch apart all the way through the letter to the other side. Poke Christmas light bulbs into the Xs you cut. Make a border for the letters out of poster board, and secure it with hot glue. Spray paint your letters gold, in keeping with the theme, and attach the string to the lights on the backside of the letters. Plug in the lights to make your marquee glow.

Center of Attention

Fill a top hat with flowers to craft an easy centerpiece for the table. Add decor down the center of the buffet with champagne glasses. Fill them with colored water (pink is pretty!) and add floating candles or fake gemstones, or both.

Treat Bowls

Instead of filling up plain bowls with chips, pretzels and other edibles, craft your own DIY bowls that serve the theme of Oscars night. Get a roll of tickets and use decoupage glue to secure them to the bowls. Make a single row tickets around the top, or cover the entire bowl. Fill them up with edibles and put them on the table to put the theme of the night on center stage.

Goodie Bags

Stars get ornate gift bags when they attend Oscar parties, so why can’t your guests? Stuff small, gold gift bags with sample sized lotions, fancy soaps, candy and plastic sunglasses – you know, star stuff. Top off bags with black tissue paper to create a dramatic effect.

Oscars Crafts

Make your party more Oscars-like with gold stars, fake gemstones and black ribbon. Affordable Oscars crafts are a great way to dress your party for less.
