Outside of the New Orleans area, you CAN find horseback riding facilities. Fall is a great time to hit the trails on horseback in Southern Mississippi and Southern Louisiana. Cooler temperatures, dryer air, and fall’s colorful foliage usually add up to a very pleasant day for a trail ride.

Broken T Ranch and Riding Stable in Carriere, Mississippi offers trail rides on 150 acres of trails. Family owned by Sharon and Dane Terry, the Broken T Ranch is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9:30AM to 2:00PM. They are also open on “minor holidays” and on Mardi Gras Day.

Reservations are required, and the $65 per person cash charge covers up to 4 ½ hours of horseback riding for anyone 9 years old and older. The horses are gentle, well trained, and healthy. Mrs. Terry said that most riders bring a picnic lunch. This stable is located at 30024 Pearson Cemetery Road, Carriere, MS 30024, and the phone number is 601-749-0896 or 1-888-749-0896. Broken T Ranch and Riding Stable is about an hour’s drive from New Orleans. See website for additional details.

Riding fees are $95 cash per rider. A credit card is needed to reserve the date. Check for specials. Do people even COME to New Orleans after the hurricane? Tourism must still be way down. Very sad :(

Yes, Cassandra, lots of people come here and New Orleans is rebuilding and improving a lot of things. It is still a great place to live and to visit. Thanks!!!

Kathleen, I now know what I'll do with my children when they have a school break; this sounds like a very memorable outing. I have a niece who loves to ride and she'll be visiting soon.
    Thank you!
