A great cause and a super idea and beautiful horses combine into a horse competition to be held in Staunton, Illinois on October 20, 2012. This horse show is being held to benefit Thoroughbreds Helping Thoroughbreds [THT] - an organization that promotes retired Thoroughbreds as versatile horses away from the racetrack.

On October 20 only horses of the Thoroughbred breed will be permitted to compete.

Co-founder of THT Holly Steinmeyer says,

Off-track Thoroughbred horses are often very young and have a lot of potential after they've finished racing. At most, Thoroughbreds are 5- to 7-years-old when they're not fit for the track anymore.

The organization wholeheartedly believes that Thoroughbreds deserve a second chance at a new career and that they are more than capable. THT was formed to reinforce breed recognition so horse owners will also consider Thoroughbreds.

Since there are an incredible number of ex-racehorses seeking homes, it becomes truly important to promote such a wonderful breed. There is so much more to a Thoroughbred horse than just its speed. They certainly are a good looking breed, intelligent, willing and exceptionally eager to please. There’s not a task put before them that they won’t attempt to accomplish. Any ex-racehorse owner can attest to this fact.

To help promote the success of off-track Thoroughbreds in the show ring for 2014, THT is offering a new prize for the Thoroughbred that raced in 2013 at Fairmount Park and accumulated the most points at THT-recognized shows in 2014.

The October 20 horse show offers 15 events. Each class awards a cash prize and trophy for first place, with ribbons through sixth place. Contact Holly Steinmeyer at steinmyr@hughes.net for information.
