The Sunday Ft. Worth Star-Telegram had an article that could serve as a simple litmus test for people's political and social mindset, sort of like a pregnancy kit but it tells you whether you're a libertarian or a statist.
Here's the headline:
The article's lead sentence, like a digital ovulation test, tells you everything you need to know about your worldview.
But just to be sure you can test further.
The article makes it clear that the racing took place on "a private ranch" in Crosby outside Houston.
The article never indicates that any horses were harmed in any way.
The article never explicitly states or ever suggests, implies, or hints that anyone was ever coerced, intimidated or fraudulently induced into doing anything.
So the question becomes: What is the difference between a "legal" and "illegal" horserace; "legal" and "illegal" gambling; and officers "legally" or "illegally" providing security?
Both libertarians and statists know the answer: government licensing.
Government licensing means that people who work for a protection racket known as a "tax-collecting ring" can use the coercive power of government to skim money from the voluntary interactions of peaceful people by threatening to kidnap them and cage them if they don't pay their bribe money.
It means that if the statists don't get their blood money nobody gets their freedom.
The state calls it a "tax." The underworld calls it a "skim." Same difference.
Here are your test results:
If you believe these people should be caged for harming no one you're a statist.
If you believe that no off-duty officer, no horse racer and no gambler committed any crime since there can be no crime when there is no victim you're a libertarian.
