Horse owner of neglected horses still not charged with animal cruelty

In a horse cruelty case that is already several months old, no charges have yet been filed and, at this time, there is still a question whether the owner will be charged. The police in Snohomish, Washington, have recommended all along that animal cruelty charges be filed against the owner. Involved are two horses that had been so severely neglected that one had to be put down.

According to Snohomish police chief John Flood, the police department investigated the abused animals and their circumstances as early as August and in September.

The police investigation results were forwarded to prosecutors for review and action.

The horses’ owner was given an opportunity to improve the care given to the horses. In fact, there was no improvement!

Save A Forgotten Equine (SAFE) was then selected to take care of them. According to a veterinarian who examined both animals, they were suffering from malnutrition and one was deemed to have significant damage to its survival prognosis. The horse was euthanized as a result.

Flood says, "The second horse is being cared for by SAFE and is showing signs of improvement.”

All of the care and charges during this animal rescue have thus far been incurred by SAFE. Costs are adding up and now exceed $2,000.

Flood says that donations are certainly most welcome by SAFE. Donations can be made directly to Save A Forgotten Equine at SAFE (https://www.safehorses.org). Donations can also be made in care of the Snohomish Police Department, 230 Maple Ave. In lieu of monetary donations, feed and other horse purchases can be made at the Snohomish Co-Op, 168 Lincoln, to benefit SAFE.

One can only wonder why not more has been done to bring this owner up for charges!
