First there was the horse meat verified in Burger King eateries in the UK that had this Cleveland Pop Culture reporter avoiding grabbing a Whopper Junior at her local fast food joints, even though no horse meat has been verifiably found in the United States within fast food places.
Now the Czech Republic's State Veterinary Administration has discovered horse-meat in the Swedish meatballs that are sold at Ikea in packs of frozen meatballs, making the European horse meat scandal grow to more than 13 countries across the European continent whereby the meat has spread.
Dr. Doug Powell, Professor of Food Safety at Kansas State University states that a massive amount of mislabeling can cause these "food frauds" from people just wanting to make a buck.
Is horse meat really dangerous? The trouble is that horses aren't inspected in the same manner as cattle -- however, some cultures eat horses while others don't, like most of those of us in the U.S.
At least we think we don't.
The horse meat discovering was picked up via DNA testing, and folks aren't pointing at IKEA, who has responded by recalling some meatballs, but does not intend to stop selling all of them.
