Horse deaths and people injuries from vehicle-versus-horses collisions

In a scene resembling a battlefield instead of a road, there was carnage after 12 horses managed, somehow, to get out of their pasture in Dresden, Saxony. In very brief published reports of the horrible crashes of vehicles into horses on Dec. 12, 2013, nine of the 12 horses were killed in collisions on a busy road in East Germany.

According to sketchy news coming out of East Germany, at least one car and two trucks careened into the horses in the dark. Two people were seriously injured – a 24-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. Both individuals were transported via ambulances to a hospital. Their names and updates on their respective conditions have not yet been released by regional authorities.

It is known, however, that of the 12 horses that got loose, nine died in the collisions with the vehicles.

A police spokesperson said, “Something like this is a shock.”

The horses had already been rounded up after they escaped from their field when they unexpectedly bolted into the road and were subsequently struck by traffic.
