Seriously and deservedly endangered Republican Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett starts his Youtube reelection campaign and you can find two of his first relatively positive ads, which are here and here. It trumps his job creation numbers while ignoring the fact that his budget cuts and his boneheaded refusal to accept Medicaid funds has cost the state needless suffering, countless lost jobs (evil government jobs are just as valid as private sector jobs) and possibly one verifiable death due to cuts in nurses in public schools. I have enthusiastically told at least one Democratic nominee for governor's office to campaign on this because its true.
One Democratic challenger Tom Wolf, who arguably has the most money in the race, countered Corbett's ad within days and even used his own footage but had a slightly different message. The Wolf ad featured a number of Corbett administration missteps that includes his low poll numbers, how his refusal to expand Medicaid directly hurts children and his recent horrific gaffe where he compares gay marriage to marriage between children.
If you would like a longer six minute retort about Governor Corbett's terrible record, then you should watch this public affairs ad put out by Counterpoint PA, which bills itself as "the only grassroots progressive newscast exclusively about Pennsylvania politics." It's certainly the only progressive newscast that starts off with what sounds like a death metal theme. Worth a look and informative.
Related: The Republican state committee also sent me a mailer asking me to give money so they could run a Pro Corbett ad. I think someone put me on their mailing list as a joke but you can look at the attack ad here. I noticed that it features an intelligent woman who doesn't mind white republican men restricting her right not only to choose but to choose contraception as well. That's one rare intelligent white woman. Oh wait, she's a paid spokeswoman. I wonder who'll she be voting for? Really I do. It also features Obama and Democratic gubernatorial contender Allyson Schwartz, who I guess the Corbett campaign wants to run against, as dangerous radicals. Frankly, in light of House republicans wanting to blow up the world's economy, this would only attract the votes of the party faithful. Not a majority according to the governor's own dim polling numbers of late. Not Related: Still mad about Gidas Flowers.
