On March 2, 2013, Kyung Ho Kang and Alex Caceres fought in UFC on Fuel TV 8 at the Super Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan. UFC fans in the Inland Empire saw a horrible decision in the Kang-Caceres fight. After three rounds of fighting, Caceres was awarded a controversial decision.
In the first round of the fight, Kang took down Caceres. After trying to ground and pound Caceres, Kang passed to side mount and dropped some elbows on Caceres. After Caceres got up, Kang took him down again. Caceres attempted an armbar, but Kang got out of it and took down Caceres yet again. Kang attempted a rear naked choke, but Caceres spun around. Caceres couldn't maintain the position and, after getting up, got taken down again. The round ended with Kang punching Caceres' face.
Just a few seconds into the second round, Kang took down Caceres. After standing up, Caceres got taken down again. Caceres attempted an armbar, but Kang defended against it. Kang attempted a rear naked choke, but Caceres defended the choke attempt. After Caceres stood up, Kang took down Caceres to end the second round.
In the third round, Caceres defended the takedown. Caceres threw down punches on Kang while Kang defended against them.
Despite Kang's performance in the first two rounds, two of three judges awarded the fight to Caceres.
In the radio show Beatdown After the Bell on sherdog.com, TJ De Santis and Sam Genovese discussed the poor judging in UFC on Fuel TV 8. They discussed the poor judging in the Kang-Caceres fight.
De Santis said, "This was a split decision that went the wrong way."
Genovese said, "Kang was dominant over two rounds, and he shut down Alex Caceres."
