As reported by Noah's Arks Rescue, precious 3-year-old Otto was saved from certain death from the Florence, S.C. shelter where he had been taken. His injuries were both old and new, and so severe that, along with his horribly emaciated state, he was destined to be killed at the shelter. It is amazing this precious boy managed to survive at all, considering the extent of the injuries he has endured. Now, NAR is reaching out to the animal advocacy community for help with Otto.
Otto's is the face of the horrors of dogfighting in this country. Cruel and heartless humans will take a loving dog, and force him or her to fight to the death for "sport". Dogs like Otto survive, either by fighting back, or by being bait dogs for other fighters to use for training. Otto's injuries are both old and new, but they tell the story of a helpless animal who did whatever he could to please the humans who should have been his guardians. He is by nature a loving and gentle boy, but is now terrified thanks to the immense cruelty he has endured for probably his entire short life.
Otto's nose has been completely ripped off of his little face. He has huge deep wounds that cover his entire face, with massive infections raging through his mouth. He has virtually no lips because they have been shredded off by the other dogs he was pitted against. As if all of this is not enough, he is literally skin draped over bone from being starved half to death.
Thanks to Jennifer Smith at NAR, Otto now has a chance at a real life, with gentle kindness and love as his future. He will never have to be afraid again, or fight for his very life. But, Otto has to learn that; he has never been able to trust humans before now.
The pictures of Otto are heartbreakingly graphic. But, we humans only have to look at them. It was Otto who had to endure the terror and pain of the repeated attacks from other dogs day after day, and feel the burning pain of hunger in his belly. Please view the pictures with caution, as they will tear at your heart.

Once they have fully healed both physically and emotionally, they are then put up for adoption into loving forever homes. They have an amazing record of helping animals, and they never give up on any animal who comes into their care.
Dogfighting has become so widespread in the area of the country where Otto was found, that the Humane Society of the United States is working with the Attorney General of the state of South Carolina to try to bring these monsters to justice. A reward of $5,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in a dogfighting operation.

Dogfighting is a disgusting and horrendous practice, that takes the innocent lives of loving dogs and inflicts the most horrible abuses possible upon them. Family pets are stolen or taken as "free to good home" from listings such as Craigslist, and then used as bait for other dogs being trained to fight. Innocent children are brought to the fights, learning from the adults that these horrors are acceptable and expected. Everyone suffers, but most of all, the innocent dogs.
Please keep getting better precious Otto. Please know that not all humans are monsters who want to hurt you. Only love and kindness will be in your life from here on out, and advocates will do whatever they can to help you, and bring those responsible for your suffering to justice.
