Continuing our cerebral, Aquarian theme this week, did you know that the African dung beetle uses the Milky Way to navigate at night?
The incredible souls at Earthsky tell us:
Scientists have discovered that African dung beetles can use the Milky Way to help them navigate at night. The research was published on January 24, 2013 in the journal Current Biology.
Wolf Moon, Hunger Moon, Snow Moon mimics path of a July Sun
The Full Moon tonight is often called the Wolf Moon, Hunger Moon or Snow Moon, and its path mimics that of the July sun.
More from Earthsky:
And that’s why tonight’s moon – like the July sun – will follow a high path across the sky as seen from the northern part of the globe – and a low path as seen from the southern.
This January full moon rises north of due east around sunset, climbs highest in the sky around midnight and sets north of due west around sunrise. Watch the full moon shine from sundown to sunup tonight.
The January 2013 full moon presents the second full moon after the December 21 solstice. There was a full moon in late December, on December 28. In North America, we often call the second full moon after the winter solstice the Wolf Moon, Hunger Moon or Snow Moon.
Photo ops of Jupiter and the Moon cozying up this week
Earthsky has an incredible gallery of photographs of this week's earlier conjunction between Jupiter and the Moon. How many of you caught a glimpse of this rare pairing? Our clear skies gave us a great view.
Animal lovers: check out the video to watch the fascinating footage of the dolphin in Hawaii seeking the help of nearby scuba divers to get a hook and line out of his fin. Don't tell me animals don't reason.
The Zodiac this week
According to the Table of Planetary Powers, the Sun is in its Detriment in Aquarius, despite personal favoritism!
The Table of Planetary Powers is one of the most important tools an astrologer can memorize and use in understanding how planetary energies are operating in the various signs or constellations and the quality of those energies.
The brilliant astrologer, Isabel Hickey, says that this table is one of the most important to memorize, and on this rests all your understanding of the laws and the prophets.
Nevertheless, I love being an Aquarian and don’t feel detrimental at all!
The moody Moon will be Full in romantic Leo tonight until Monday night, when it moves into fussy Virgo, and from there on Wednesday night it moves into idealistic Libra until Saturday, and from there goes into efficient Scorpio.
Contrary to the Sun, Mercury in Aquarius is exalted, its second strongest position. The ‘ruler’position is the strongest; exalted is the second best position. Mercury loves being in mental Aquarius and the alchemy here is nothing short of communicado wizardry!
Venus and her values leaves traditional Capricorn on Saturday, and heads into original Aquarius.
Action-oriented Mars is in helpful Aquarius until Saturday, when it moves into self-sacrificing Pisces.
Expansive Jupiter is in its detriment in versatile Gemini.
Serious Saturn is in serious Scorpio.
Backfield is the same: the Awakener, Uranus, is in combative Aries; the Dissolver, Neptune, is at home in imaginative Pisces; the Transformer, Pluto, is in cautious Capricorn.
Aries (Mar. 21 – Apr. 22): Cultivate the ability to marshal your energy constructively through organization and goal-setting, and don’t be an adrenaline junkie. Be careful not to expect others to jump into action over your mismanaged tasking.
Taurus (Apr. 22 – May 21): Stop squeezing the life-blood out of people and situations through an excessive need for control. Practice your legendary patience and participate, but don’t dominate. Flavor a situation with just the right dollop of your input.
Gemini (May 22 – June 21): Your sense of humor will be most instrumental in diffusing a tense situation this week. “Humor is a rubber sword - it allows you to make a point without drawing blood.” ~Mary Hirsch.
When an intimate asks you to be serious, however, relax and be open to the possibilities – emotional exchanges don’t have to get icky-sticky.
Cancer (June 22 – July 21): It’s hard for you to be direct, but it’s not necessarily hard for others; if you notice others becoming impatient with you, don’t overreact. Emotions and those experiences are waves that come over us, but a calm, reflective pond is just as fulfilling. Don't believe everything you feel.
Leo (July 22 – Aug. 21): Trade dominion over others for dominion and mastery over your own unsubjugated forces; or, as Dear Abby used to reply: MYOB.
Virgo (Aug. 22 – Sept. 21): Love withers in a critical atmosphere; keep your critical energies in check. It was from one of my favorite Unity ministers, Marilyn Roth of the Pasadena, California, Unity, that I first learned: Speak only what is kind, useful and necessary.
Libra (Sept. 22 – Oct. 21): On the surface you are diplomatic and sweet, but beneath the velvet gloves are fists of iron. This may be hard to hear, but you can work up quite a storm where other people are concerned. Like we told your Zodiacal sibling, Leo, MYOB.
Scorpio (Oct. 22 – Nov. 21): Whether you realize it or not, others find it hard to get close to you due to your reserved and quiet nature. You can be quite interesting and engaging if you give it a chance.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): Lack of organization and lack of discipline creates excessive stress in your energy system. Cultivate a few organizing techniques, such as a daily to-do list, and remembering a key principle of time management: touch each object or document only once; take care of the matter once and for all.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 21): Love is the healing force that dissolves arrogance and selfishness; think twice about whether or not you’re considering the needs of others and rights of others.
Aquarius (Jan. 22 – Feb. 21): Tenderize your feelings…make sure you’re feeling love and not thinking it. You can be amazingly magnanimous and monumental when you allow your heart to be open.
Pisces: (Feb. 22 – Mar. 21): Pisceans rarely strike a blow, but when they do, it’s worse than death. Serve or suffer, Fish.
Have a beautiful week! Our will is our life!
