Horoscopes and the Zodiac for the week ahead: Jan. 13-19, 2013 (Photos)

The theme this week is immune system! Bolstering the immune system is the second-best action we can take to help our bodies help keep us healthy.

Number #1 is washing our hands. Washing our hands throughout the day and especially when we change tasks, handle food or handle someone with cold and flu symptoms is our best defense against disease.

Avoiding the flu is on everyone's minds. Regardless of your opinion about flu shots, a strong immune system is an essential wellness factor for good and even great health.

According to Dr. Morter, sustaining a pH balance of 7.2 is as close to invincible as a human can get.

In thinking about the immune system, my mind naturally goes to honey. Honey is a remarkable substance with a near limitless list of virtues. Honey is the perfect winter food and can help fight seasonal disease.

Honey can help heal a wound, reduce and heal acne breakouts, act as a first aid in many emergencies such as insect bite or sunburn; makes an incredible facial mask (mix w/ baking soda); aid in heart disease and other health conditions; and, it tastes really good and comes from nature. The best of earth.

Honey recently helped our entire household of critters (4 cats and 2 dogs – the dogs seem unaffected, but we have them on honey, too) to fight off a respiratory infection, and our veterinarian, Companion Pet Clinic, encouraged the protocol! The vet tech said they use honey before they wrap a wound.

So, unless you’re allergic to honey (pregnant women should avoid eating honey in case the baby is allergic to honey), honey it up and help your immune system.

Horoscopes for the week ahead

If your birthday falls between the 18th and 24th of the month, you must consult a qualified astrologer for your Sun sign designation.

Aries (Mar. 21 – Apr. 21) What’s important to you is not more important than what’s important to others. Allow life to unfold in its own time-frame - divine order, even - instead of demanding events to happen your way. Fire sign (Sag), Byron Katie, encourages us to love what is.

Taurus (Apr. 22 – May 21) It takes a lot to set you off, but when you blow, you take off mountaintops and anyone foolish enough to stay close by. Give your rage a constructive target – a physical outlet is best.

Gemini (May 22 – June 21) Watch your imagination, for a while, then, put roots and a plan to your idea or let it go and move on, for now. We all need to practice meditation daily, but, Gemini, more than any other sign needs to get the mind under control. Practice relaxation breathing; this will help.

Cancer (June 22 – July 21) You soak up everything and everyone around you…like a psychic sponge. Being sensitive can be both a gift and a curse. Channel the energy through physical outlets, such as exercise, movement, even singing!

Leo (July 22 – Aug 21) Leo has trouble delegating authority; you give with one hand and take away with the other.

The soul of all Leos longs to fulfill the destiny of the sign, described best by astrologer extraordinaire, and a Leo, Isabel Hickey: “No man can be a true leader until he is willing to be a servant of all. The greatest gift a Leo can bring to the world is an understanding heart.”

Virgo (Aug 22 – Sept 21) Less criticism, more love, Virgo. Check your own insecurities and feelings of inadequacy before picking on someone you like. Like we told your Aries sibling, love what is.

Libra (Sept 22 – Oct 21) Practice the power of tithing and expand with some practices in generosity. Lose the balancing act when it comes to people…we gotta all give it all we got when it comes to one another.

Scorpio (Oct 22 – Nov 21) Relationships call for equality and responsibility; quit passing judgment and, like we’ve been telling the whole zodiacal clan today, love what is! Lighten up just a scosche, Scorp, life is long.

Sagittarius (Nove 22 – Dec 21) Your legendary tactlessness might get crazy after Mercury goes into zany Aquarius – just muzzle yourself now and save your friends the sting from one of your well placed, and often, thoughtless, zings! It’s so hard not to say all those clever, witty and sometimes insulting things that practically drop onto your tongue out of nowhere.

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 21) Your wintry nature gets a bit chilly to your beloveds, Cap; thaw out, warm up and get closer and cuddlier to those in your world. Don’t scowl, I said, cuddlier. Try to be as nice to your family as your are to the public.

Aquarius (Jan 22 – Feb 21) Your willfulness might be headed into overdrive about something that does not warrant the energy; you have a “strong will that brooks no interference with your desires,” according to Isabel. Let Saturn (your old ruler) be your common sense.

Pisces (Feb 22 – Mar 20) The body is the temple of the living spirit; treat it with care, Fish. You must overcome the sensual response to life; you can be self-indulgent and wallow in the senses. You must find daily constructive escapes such as a hobby, meditation or dance in order to function.

The week ahead in the Zodiac

The celestial bodies are putting on quite a show, even to the naked eyes with cloudless skies, with five planets being visible this month.

Follow this link to Earthsky for info on where to look in the night sky for Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Mercury.

  • The Sun makes its final lap through Capricorn this week. Capricorn rules society, ambition, standing in the community. Capricorn rules material affairs, such as our current fiscal cliff condition.

From global astrologer, Michael Wolfstar this week:

"Save Us from Self-Inflicted Wounds"

Last week the punditocracy was unusually pessimistic about the political prospects for 2013 due to the imminent battle over raising the debt ceiling.

The Senate chaplain expressed the issue concisely: "Save us from self-inflicted wounds."

The transits and progressions to the U.S. chart reflect an equally grim view, especially when considering the 12th house of self-undoing. Uniquely in the Scorpio Rising national horoscope, the 12th house is fully activated by two major progressions: progressed Mars -- the co-ruler of the Scorpio Ascendant -- and the progressed Moon.

Progressed Mars will be in the 12th house for the next 20 years, so is a long-term influence bringing many self-inflicted wounds, crumbling infrastructure, and periodic terrorist activity. The progressed Moon here is a relatively short-term influence, lasting until June 2014. Currently, the U.S. progressed Moon is at 21º Libra.

The U.S. Mercury-Pluto is the celestial signature for intense political debate, but negatively expressed, is associated with conspiracy theories, paranoia and insanity. The national psyche will be deeply challenged to make constructive progress.

  • The moody Moon is in open-minded Aquarius on Sunday, but before dawn on Monday it will move into the constellation of self-sacrificing Pisces for a couple of days, until Wednesday morning, then it will be in independent Aries until Saturday morning.

The first First Quarter Moon of 2013 is Friday at 3:45 p.m. (PST)

  • Mercury will spend the first of the week journeying through its final lap of Capricorn, and, then on Friday at 11:15 p.m., communicative Mercury will go into unpredictable Aquarius for a brief tour.

Mercury in Aquarius is an energy pattern that's a personal favorite of mine. Mercury in Aquarius is a chapter out of Alice in Wonderland! These souls will say the darndest things!

  • Venus and her values are still in responsible Capricorn.
  • The planet that represents our anger, sex and action impulses, Mars, will be joined in friendly, funky Aquarius by Mercury, so expect some mischief-making by the personality!
  • Expansive Jupiter remains in friendly Gemini.
  • The Angel of Discipline, the Emperor Moth of the Zodiac, Saturn, is in mysterious Scorpio.
  • The outer three continue their generational influence with the Awakener, Uranus, in independent Aries; the Dissolver, Neptune, at home in sympathetic Pisces; and, the Transformer, Pluto, in efficient Capricorn.

Have a beautiful week! Our will is our life!
