So, how often has the groundhog, Phil, really predicted the coming of spring? According to Old Farmers Almanac, less than half the time:
According to researchers, the groundhog has accurately predicted the coming of spring only 39 percent of the time.
Today, Phil did not see his shadow. Tradition suggests that this means spring will be here early!
Local lore here in the Klamath Basin suggests that a surefire way to ensure a long winter is for someone to take their studs off mid-winter!
More cerebral, Aquarian trivia from Old Farmers Almanac can be found at the link:
- Why did the old lightning rods on top of the barns in the Northeast have a glass ball about four inches down from the top of the rod?
- How can I get rid of the onion odor in a wooden cutting board?
- Who said something like "the best laid plans of mice and men?"
February’s Top Five Astrology Events
John Halloran’s weekly Newscope provides astrological insights without him trying to titillate us out of thinking for ourselves through astrological jargon and psychological bait designed to lure us into listening to, and possibly even paying for, predictions about our lives from a virtual stranger.
Like many professional astrologers, Aquarian, Halloran, is a serious astrologer who possesses a sincere desire to make a positive and meaningful contribution to humanity through his understanding of the science of astrology. I've had the distinct pleasure and benefit of being associated with Halloran for almost 25 years.
February’s Top Three of Five Astro-Events (follow link for all 5)
- Jupiter sextile Uranus is in effect through the 23rd, an unusually favorable influence that promotes spontaneous growth, renewed optimism for the future, and inventive or insightful solutions to long-standing problems.
- Mars enters Pisces on the 1st where he remains through mid-March. The warrior planet in this watery sign acts through faith and beliefs, which favors the spiritual warrior, but also energizes terrorists and lunatics. The 13th to 17th are especially favorable for constructive action and steady progress
- The New Moon in Aquarius on the 10th is a good time to begin networking with friends and colleagues. Communication with family members suddenly improves, and it’s an excellent time to reconnect with siblings. Community activities, social gatherings, and benefits for your favorite cause or charity are favored over the coming week. Companionship rather than romance is the key to improving relationships.
Oneness in action
In a talk this week, the beloved Dalai Lama told a group:
"If you have religious faith, wonderful. If you have no interest in it, okay! Secular ethics are the most important."
The Dalai Lama praised the secular foundations of India, saying “India’s constitution is based on secularism.”
He went on to point out that:
Secularism does not mean to disrespect religion; Respect all religions but at the same time respect nonbelievers.”
Consult a qualified astrologer for birthdays that land between the 18th and 24th of the month to determine accurate Sun sign designation.
Aries (Mar. 21 – Apr. 22): Cultivate tact and diplomacy this week – count to ten before responding/reacting to a situation or statement. Avoid being argumentative; take that combative, physical energy and blow it off through a physical/creative outlet such as dance, Zumba, archery, or walking.
Taurus (Apr. 22 – May 21): Everyone has a right to their opinion, including you; but, just as you don’t like being pushed to change your mind, neither do others….back off, Bull, before you get tempted into blowing up; it takes a lot for Taurus to lose its temper, but when it happens, run.
Gemini (May 22 – June 21): You might feel like two very different people at times; the brilliant astrologer, Isabel Hickey, describes the dynamic, “Two personalities in one body fighting for control.” This vibration is likely to make you feel indecisive and unsure. Cultivate a spiritual/life philosophy that you can feel anchored to as a supportive and sturdy foundation.
Cancer (June 22 – July 21): Timid when threatened, but quite dominating when secure; but no matter the mood, it doesn’t last for long. Learn to surf those strong, changing emotions through non-attachment and loving what is.
Leo (July 22 – Aug. 21): Yes, everyone misses you when you retreat to pout, so keep the tantrum short and don’t take yourself or your holier-than-though ideals so seriously.
Virgo (Aug. 22 – Sept. 21): There is no darkness that the light of the smallest candle won’t dissolve; we all have our demons, and just like our ideals, we shouldn’t take them so seriously, as we just advised Leo. Learning to dance at the doorstep of hell is part of the fun of having a body.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out, Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, proclaiming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"
Libra (Sept. 22 – Oct. 21): Put your keen sense of color, style and design to work in your environment this week – spruce things up, de-clutter, beautify or balance things so that the flow is more fluid, creative and reflects your taste.
Scorpio (Oct. 22 – Nov. 21): Your calm exterior doesn't fool those who know you well and/or astrologers; Scorpios are the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to feelings; inside you might be seething, yet outside you’re cool as a cucumber. Vent it off through a physical and/or creative outlet....don't let it fester.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): You add a delightful zeal and enthusiasm to situations so be open to opportunities to zig-zag in and shoot one of your perceptive arrows of understanding into things. You might ruffle a few feathers, but you can take it; sometimes there is the sweetest fruit, forbidden by the closed-minded, out on those far-reaching limbs.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 21): Some ancient and deep wisdom tells you that the challenges and struggles in life happen for a significant reason and divine purpose that will facilitate your spiritual growth. You, more than any other sign, knows how to build a bridge, get over it and move on.
Aquarius (Jan. 22 – Feb. 21): You must compensate for low physical energy through a vital, vegetable-rich diet that avoids sugar and processed foods; fruit is fine. Daily exercise builds oxygen capacity and this translates to more energy.
Pisces (Feb. 22 – Mar. 21): Let your incredibly imaginative and creative energies loose and see where they take you – no reservation, no inhibition; we didn’t make ourselves so why should we be self-conscious about our abilities and inabilities?! Show your hidden splendor, Fish.
The week ahead in the Zodiac
The source of our essential self, the Sun, is still dancing through unorthodox Aquarius.
The 3rd Quarter moody Moon is in Scorpio tonight until Monday, when it moves into perceptive Sagittarius until Wednesday, when it will go into cranky Capricorn until Friday, when it will join the Sun and Venus in broad-minded Aquarius.
Communicative Mercury will be saying ‘so long’ to friendly Aquarius early on Tuesday, and ‘hello’ to spiritual Pisces.
- Action-oriented Mars is in sympathetic Pisces.
- Expansive Jupiter is still in dualistic Gemini.
- Restrictive Saturn is in efficient Scorpio.
Backfield is the same: the Awakener, Uranus, is in combative Aries; the Dissolver, Neptune, is at home in imaginative Pisces; the Transformer, Pluto, is in cautious Capricorn.
Have a beautiful week! Our will is our life!
