With WrestleMania 29 just days away, sixteen WWE Superstars and Divas faced off at New Jersey's Izod Center to crown a video game champion in the 2013 WWE WrestleMania Superstar Challenge. The contest, which also aired live on TwitchTV on Fri., April 5, took place on WWE '13 for the Xbox 360 before a live crowd attending WWE's Fan Axxess event.
In the first round, JTG defeated Tyson Kidd, Big E Langston toppled Zack Ryder, Jimmy Uso defeated Primo, Jey Uso defeated Epico, two-time WWE video game champion Kofi Kingston took out Alex Riley, Damien Sandow was eliminated by Hornswoggle, Hunico beat Sin Cara and Rosa topped WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn.
Following his defeat to Hornswoggle, Sandow cried foul and sat in with the TwitchTV commentators to air his grievance for the remainder of the event.
The second round moved quickly as Jimmy Uso eliminated Hunico, Langston topped Jey Uso, Hornswoggle upended Kingston and JTG scored the victory over Rosa.
In round three, Hornswoggle defeated JTG in a highly competitive match-up while Langston came out on top of Jimmy Uso to advance to the finals.
In the final round, Langston picked WWE Legend Road Dogg as his on-screen character in his battle with Hornswoggle, who chose CM Punk as his in-game avatar. Langston almost seemed to have victory in hand during the competitive bout, hitting three finishers in a row, only for Hornswoggle to kick out each time. Hornswoggle then locked in Punk's Anaconda Vise submission hold for the final victory.
WWE WrestleMania 29 takes place this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
