A horned monster is one strange and mysterious creature of the sea that washed onto a shore in Spain this week and is leading to many questions. The remains of this sea monster washed onto Luis Siret Beach this week, heavily decomposed, but is over 4 meters long and is distinctive due to the pair of horns found on its head, News.com reported this Friday, Aug. 23.
The horned monster seems to some to be a mythical sea creature, while other locals are left thinking the skeletal remains could be as simple as an oar fish to as rare as a relative of the Loch Ness monster.
"A lady found one and we helped her retrieve the rest," said one witness. “It just washed to shore. We have no idea what it was. It really stank.”
Whatever it is, the animal is over 4 meters long, noted observers, and did have very visible horns on its body.
Both residents and experts in Spain are currently looking into what the horned creature may be, whether it’s simply a well-known sea creature that just washed to shore and is mysterious only due to its decomposed nature, or if it could very well be a new species. So far, the guesses have varied widely, from some thinking the horned animal is a remnant of the dinosaurs to a mutated shark or fish.
"It’s hard to know what we are dealing with," added one PROMAR Sea Life official in a statement. "It’s very decomposed and we cannot identify what it is."
The remains of the horned monster have already been sent to a lab in Spain for testing, and experts are hoping they will be able to identify just what the sea animal is before the week is up.
