Hop Bomber - Rivertown Brewing

Rivertown Brewing is one of Cincinnati's latest craft brewers. Their slogan is "What Ales You?" and their style is a bit off the ordinary. As part of learning about them, here's a review of their pale ale called Hop Bomber.

The first thing noticeable about Hop Bomber is the bottle. A little squat of a 12 ouncer, the label is relatively straight forward. The twist off top releases the sound of CO2 and the smell of hops starts to fill the air. The pour reveals a highly carbonated, deep golden color ale. There are hints of redness as well.

The nose is meet with hops and rye malt. Yep, rye malt in a pale ale. The color too is a little darker than one might expect from a pale. The head rises high, but soon settles down nicely. The hop aroma is strong, but nondescript.

The tongue is met with hints of malt and mild hop bitterness. Mid-mouth the CO2 help the hops to dance around the tongue and fill the mouth. It finishes with mild bitterness and some dryness. The hops linger on after the drink is done.

The beer is overall good and gives one the resemblance to filtered home brew, albeit very good home brew. It is well balanced, but not overly hoppy in aroma, flavor or bitterness. It is quite enjoyable.
