They say the lucky might find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow; try finding luck at the downtown canal this Thursday, March 14. Help the Circle City kick off the yearly St Patrick’s Day Celebration starting with the 17th Annual Greening of the Canal; the fun begins at 4:30pm. Park for free at the Indiana Historical Society located at 450 West Ohio Street. The event will take place at the Stardust Terrace and plenty of authentic Irish fare and live music will be available as well as a cash bar. Join in on the fun and witness the dying of the canal, as it turns green in honor of St Patrick’s Day.
The celebration continues the following day with the 33rd Annual St Patrick’s Day parade and festival. The parade starts at 11:30am; enjoy local high school bands and creative themed floats as the parade makes its way through downtown beginning at the corner of North and Pennsylvania Streets and ending on Meridian Street near the War Memorial. Look for the big gathering of people on Vermont Street to join in on the free St Patrick’s Day festival fun from 10am-3pm. There will be live entertainment, interactive activities for the kids, and a variety of Irish merchandise.
For the more health conscience, the 22nd Annual Shamrock Run/Walk will take off from Monument Circle on Saturday, March 16 starting at 10:00am and is open to all ages and abilities. Come dressed to compete for the best Irish get-up and win a prize; other prizes will be awarded too! Proceeds from the race benefit local amateur sports organizations; click here to learn about registration.
The St Patrick’s Day Celebration will conclude with the Shamrockin’ the Circle event at Monument Circle from 10:00am-4:00pm and it is free to all and is family friendly. The event features live music and traditional Irish food; all proceeds will benefit the Indy Sports Foundation. Shamrockin’ the Circle will go on despite rain or shine, but if the weather becomes too bad, the event will likely be moved to the Columbia Club. The website will provide the latest details.
