On Wednesday, April 21, Pink Jams! will hold their last fundraiser before the DC Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on May 1-2. The fundraiser event is being hosted by Hook in Georgetown (3241 M Street NW) to benefit Pink Jams! and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in conjunction with a birthday celebration of Pink Jams! Founder, Christa Floresca. The fundraiser event from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. is free for attendees; however, the suggested donation is $10. Hook, known for their use of seasonal sustainable fish, locally grown produce, and humane meat and dairy products, is generously donating a portion of food and beverage purchases to the cause, so attendees are encouraged to come hungry and ready to celebrate! In honor of the cause Hook will be offering pink signature drinks to all.
Restaurant owner Jonathan Umbel says, "Hook is proud to support PinkJAMS in its goal of finding a cure for breast cancer. We consider it a privilege and an honor to be able to be a part of this effort for such a worthy cause.”

In addition to pink signature drinks a’plenty, local singer/songwriter Mike Bowers will provide a special acoustic performance. Mike Bowers said, "Pink Jams purposefully targets its efforts toward younger audiences in hopes to create awareness and prevention at an age demographic where detection is critical and treatment has a fighting chance. Christa does this by mixing her outreach efforts with music, fashion and art. I will be bringing my special brand of acoustic music to the event -- an event that I am honored to be a part of."
PINK JAMS! is a homegrown project of native Washingtonian, Christa Floresca who after losing her dear friend Jen to breast cancer in 2007, decided that she wanted to raise awareness and funds for the cause. Last year, Christa decided to take on the challenge doing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, tredding 39 miles in two days. In 2009, Christa decided that she can do more than just raise the funds needed for her entry, so she partnered with local musicians and and launched Pink Jams, a creative “way of raising awareness by combining great music and a great cause.”

Pink Jams Founder, Christa Floresca
Floresca said, "I've met so many unforgetable people in the last nine months. Courageous men and women who are breast cancer survivors; and people who have lost their friends and family to this disease. I've been blessed to make new friends, reunite with old ones, and I've laughed and cried with some of the best people I have ever met."
Christa’s hope is to keep the memory of Jen alive by telling her story, while engaging women and men in the community in awareness-raising and prevention. Her goal is to raise at least $10,000 for the DC Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on 1-2 May, 2010. She believes that the Pink Jams events will be a fun way to bring everyone together for a very important cause.
Net Proceeds from all PINK JAMS! events will be donated to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer event series managed by the Avon Foundation. The Avon Foundation supports breast cancer education and awareness; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research into the cause, prevention, treatment, and cure.
