Every once in a while you stumble across a company you want to tell your friends about. One such company is RecruitMilitary. I had an opportunity to talk with Drew Myers, CEO/President of RecruitMilitary this afternoon about an upcoming “Opportunity Expo” for military veterans and their families in Phoenix. Drew served in the Marines from 1986 until 1993. After 7 years in the military he didn’t know where to look for job opportunities or how to create a network to find them. The whole job search process was trial and error. A few years later in a discussion with several colleagues bemoaning the fact that good sales people were hard to find, Drew commented that the best sales people he knew were Marine recruiters. “Who else could convince 17 year olds to join the Marines”. That statement along with the memory of his personal experience of transitioning to civilian life was the seed that eventually grew into RecruitMilitary.
RecruitMilitary will host 63 Opportunity Expos this year for military veterans and their families across the country. Each Expo will provide access to more than 40 hiring companies, entrepreneurial opportunities and educational resources. They also provide online job search opportunities for employers looking to hire military veterans, and provide contract sourcing services for companies with hard to fill jobs requiring specific experience and backgrounds. RecruitMilitary offers very reasonably priced resume writing services for job seeking veterans and publishes an impressive by-monthly magazine for military job seekers. This weekend in Virginia Beach, they will host an Opportunity Expo for the Department of Homeland Security who are recruiting veterans for a variety of positions across the United States.
Myers says” there are many reasons a company should consider hiring veterans. There are tax incentives, free relocation for currently separating military and some retiring military have Healthcare provided through the VA.” But, he says, “the number one reason is to say thank you to those who have served our country.”
If you are an employer who is looking to hire veterans or a veteran who is looking for employment opportunities, I encourage you to visit the RecruitMilitary.com website. By all means, plan on attending the Phoenix Opportunity Expo on Thursday, October 14th from 11AM to 3PM at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Finally, show your gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifice of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Send a homecoming message to the Troops at www.whitehouse.gov/salute.
