Honoring sacrifices for freedom

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the thousands who have sacrificed themselves to secure and maintain the freedoms of others. History. com provides wonderful videos, photos, speeches, and interactives that honor those who have given of themselves to fight against tyrannies and to establish the freedoms for others. For many years we have appreciated the Memorial Day concert on PBS, especially the autobiographical stories. In honor of Memorial Day, HBO Films has presented a special encore of Taking Chance. Such programs move our hearts and minds, as we contemplate the great sacrifices many have made to secure and maintain the freedom of others.

I am especially thankful to my father and to my husband for their sacrificial service as military veterans. My father, Col. H.S. Lowe served Patton in WWII. He served Chiang Kai Shek during the Communist take-over of mainland China. After my mother and I joined him in China, we were all evacuated to Japan. We continued to support my father in his thirty year military career, as he  served McArthur in Korea and Westmoreland in Viet Nam. My husband, Dr. David R. Howard, served as an Army chaplain for 20 years.  Our family and I have supported him in his military career. We have continued our support, as he has trained military chaplains and military personnel in his work as a graduate professor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in marriage and family counseling. We continue to serve the military however we can.

We are deeply grateful and supportive of military veterans, personnel, and families! We know personally that the sacrifices that military personnel make greatly affects their whole families, who also need and deserve our honor, respect, and support. Thank you, military veterans, personnel, and your families for what you have given.
