Cleveland is the proud home of the NASA Space Center thus giving Cleveland area residents a small connection to the NASA Space program and its many aviation achievements.
Wapakoneta, Ohio, the hometown of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon (back in 1969) will be giving fans of summer and space enthusiasts a chance to celebrate the season and the 45th anniversary of the first moon landing at their annual free Summer Moon Festival on Wednesday, July 16 through Sunday, July 20.
Summer Moon Festival Activities for this 5-day event will take place at two locations --- in downtown Wapakoneta along the Auglaize River and at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum.
Downtown activities include bed races, a car show, a baggo/corn hole tournament, a fishing derby and the Run to the Moon 5K race where there will be a special appearance by a NASA astronaut.
Activities and things to see at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum include model rocket launches, face painting, a planetarium show, free space inflatables, a caricature artist, the "Lost in Space" robot (Baby Boomers will love that!), a paper lantern launch, performances by a juggler and rocket science hands-on activities.
Live entertainment throughout the Festival will be provided by The Staples and New Outlook.
BBQ chicken dinners will be available for purchase on Thursday, July 17 starting at 4:30 p.m.
Don't miss the free Lima Area Concert Band concert on Sunday evening from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.
Wednesday's only activity is the Miss Summer Moon pageant being held at 7 p.m. at the WHS Performing Arts Center. Hours for the rest of the Summer Moon Festival are 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. on Thursday, 4 p.m. - midnight on Friday, 9 a.m. - midnight on Saturday and noon - 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission to the Festival is free and parking is free.
