Honor student murdered days after performing at Obama's inaugural celebration

Haydiya Pendleton was shot and died from her injuries, Jan. 29, 2013. In addition to Pendleton, another student was shot and is recovering from a gun shot wound to the leg.

Apparently, classes at King College Prep, in the southside of Chicago, were dismissed early after finals. A group of students went to the near-by park and gun fire erupted at around 2:30pm.

Pendleton was described by a family member as a walking angel. According to Dr Boyce Watkins of Techyville, Shatira Wilks said, "Her daughter has never ever given her mother a problem, this girl was literally a walking angel".

Pendleton performed at the inauguration with her band mates, the King College Prep band. She also played vollyball and was a majorette.

Ironically, the shooting occured in close proximity of President Obama's home but residents are saying this is not a normal occurrence in this area. Chicago has stayed in the news lately because of increased crime. There has been 42 people murdered in the month of January this year.
