In the pursuit of peace, American service men and women must first receive their just due, accolades and benefits.
President Abraham Lincoln's promise, "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphans." A quote and honor to the fallen soldiers of the Civil War. A prelude to a day set aside as Decoration Day and later called Memorial Day, that would honor all American war veterans.
Since 2009, Veterans' homelessness has been reduced by 24 percent. Over 1 million student veterans and families have been provided the G.I. bill educational benefits.
8.9 million veterans enroll in VA healthcare every year according to Secretary Eric Shinseki of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. And 236,000 outpatient healthcare appointments are conducted every day by VHA, about 85 million in 2013. Still that is not enough as many veterans wait in bureaucratic nonsense to acquire assistance after coming home from war.
President Obama conducted a surprise visit to the troops in Afghanistan for Memorial Day and said, "We stand in awe of your service." Before addressing the troops in Afghanistan, the president spoke during his weekly address that, "Every single one of us owes our fallen heroes a debt of graditude. Because every time we cast our vote or speak our mind without fear, its because they fought for our right to do that."
When called to war from the American Revolutionary War to Afghanistan, the purpose to defend against hostile forces was to establish peace and justice. Peace and justice can only be achieved and sustained through balance, spiritual balance.
Aligned with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Injustice anywhere is a threat against justice everywhere." And so it is with balance, imbalance anywhere is a threat against balance everywhere.
An unjust law is a human law that is out of harmony with moral law. Law that degrades human personality is unjust. Words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This, unjust law, is the sign of an imbalanced spirit. Thus, results are conflicts, violence and spilling of blood.
Lies, broken treaties, slavery, housing and educational discrimination, unjust imprisonment, unfair employment practices, and all social inequities are forms of imbalance. These practices have been known to man throughout history and more recently in the U.S. towards the Native Americans, African Americans and people of color. There must be balance or consequences will be suffered.
Even the universe adheres to the laws of balance and gravity. Planets, moons and cosmic orbs maintain an existence for billions of years through balance, so should Man.
The American people are poised to do the amazing when it comes to world leadership. There has been and continues to be too much blood shed, too much carnage both at home and abroad. Only through a collective balanced spirit will greatness and lasting peace be accomplished. Wisdom and intelligence flourish in fertile and serene environments, but as soon as imbalance is introduced, so is negativity.
