This Saturday afternoon at 2 pm, Honor Fraser Gallery in Culver City hosts a free panel discussion of contemporary sculpture making in Los Angeles. Moderated by curator and writer Ed Schad, the panel includes Honor Fraser's current artist on exhibition, Gustavo Godoy, as well as gallerist Jeff Poe, artist Kathryn Andrews, and artist Piero Golia.
The discussion will focus on the evolving critical view of LA's sculpture scene as just a shallow derivative of New York's stronger climate to now being considered one of the sculpture capitals of the world. Moderator and panelists will engage in an interesting exchange of ideas on what were the specific criteria, exclusive to Los Angeles, contributing to the change and how these criteria produced a fertile environment for more innovative sculpture in recent years.
