Honor Flight honorees escorted by Rapid City American Legion Riders

On Thursday, May 5, a group of American Legion Riders, Post 22, from Rapid City escorted two busloads of WWII Veterans from Spearfish to Wall, SD, as they traveled en route to Sioux Falls to board a flight to Washington DC as part of the Honor Flight program.  When they reached the end of the escort, the riders parked alongside the interstate highway, got off their motorcycles, and stood to salute the buses as they passed by.  It was obvious that each rider felt proud to be a part of this mission, and proud to escort these men to whom we all owe so much.

As you watch the video whose link shown below, please remember that the price of freedom is written on the faces of the veterans who have fought for that freedom, and on many hundreds of thousands of tombstones across this country.  We are losing our WWII veterans, and the countless stories they could tell us, by the thousands every month.  In a few short years, they will all be gone  just like the WWI veterans, the last of whom died only recently.

We all sometimes see an old gentleman wearing a hat that mentions he is a WWII, or maybe a Korean War, or even a Vietnam War veteran. No matter what you are doing, walk up to them, and thank them for their service to our country, and offer them a handshake. The smiles you'll get back are pure gold. You'll walk away proud of yourself for what you did, but especially proud to have let an old man know that there are those of us around who know what they did, and appreciate the freedoms we continue to have because of it.

God Bless America!  Please watch this video about the Honor Flight program and support the program financially if you can.
