With so many big name bands in Des Moines for the 2014 Iowa State Fair, many of the local music venues cut back on booking talent for the last eleven days. Now that the fair is almost behind us, you can expect the venues to start cranking out shows once again starting tomorrow. So enjoy your last day of the fair today, and get ready to kick off the work week tomorrow with live music from Honor by August, The Gallery, Origin, and more. Check out the details on all of the major shows for Monday, August 18 below.
Washington, D.C. rockers Honor by August bring their summer tour with Los Angeles-based folk rockers The Gallery to Des Moines on Monday for a stop at the Gas Lamp. Honor by August made a name for themselves early on by winning contests. The band won the grand prize in the pop category of Billboard Magazine's World Song Contest. They won "Battle of the Band" events to earn the right to open for Hanson at a club show, and they beat out more than 150 bands to open for Bon Jovi at an arena show in D.C. Honor by August has gone on to tour with or open for big names like Imagine Dragons, Switchfoot, Jonny Lang, Red Wanting Blue, and Hootie & the Blowfish. The band released their third album, Monuments to Progress, last year. The album was funded solely by the band's fans through a Kickstarter campaign. Tourmates The Gallery got their start in Wilbraham, Massachusetts back in 2005. Now based in L.A., the folk rock quartet released their fourth album, entitled Restless, last year. Des Moines' Adam Bartelt (of the New Bodies) will kick off the show at 6 p.m. The concert will be open to all ages and will have a $10 cover at the door.
**UPDATE: Due to tour vehicle issues, the Honor by August/The Gallery concert has been cancelled. No reschedule date has been set at this time.
Topeka death metal band Origin will bring their "All Things Dead" North American tour to Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines tomorrow for a 4 p.m. all ages event. Origin released their sixth studio album, entitled Omnipresent, last month. Joining them on the bill Monday are King Parrot, Beyond Creation, Abolishment of Flesh, Bleedchain, and Deplorable Immaculacy. Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and $18 on the day of the show.
